April 23-25, 2010
Warren, Halifax and Vance Counties

in partnership with the Operation InAsMuch efforts occurring across our state these two weekends

Addressing Poverty in Our Own Backyard

"Come over here and help us." Acts 16:9

Pockets of intense poverty exist all across our state. As members of the Body of Christ, CBFNC Christians are responding to this reality in many ways. You are invited, along with your family or a group from your church, to share the riches of Christ's love, presence, and compassion in one such area of need.

Event Information

This weekend is for individuals, families, Sunday School classes, youth groups, missions circles and others to experience and meet the needs of persons living in poverty along the north central border of our state.
Please prayerfully consider joining us in this endeavor as we seek to impact the life of our community with the gifts and graces of the Body of Christ, and challenge your friends and family to come alongside you!

Plan now to bring your family, church group or come as individuals. It's a great weekend of purpose and fun as we serve God together; sharing God's love in these communities.

Mission Opportunities

The opportunities for service and generosity will be as varied as the gifts with which the Church has been endowed.

There may be opportunities for:
~ light construction work (such as painting, maintenance, etc.),
~ skilled trades (electricians, plumbers, carpenters),
~ unskilled volunteers with painting, trim work, flooring and landscaping,
~ ministry to women,
~ Kid's Carnival (certain areas only per county),
~ yard work,
~ cleaning up,
~ feeding the hungry,
~ possible clowning or puppetry ministry (contact Linda Jones at LJones@cbfnc.org or 888-822-1944 if you can help in this area)

Please bring your own tools!

Each team, or each set of teams, will be guided and accompanied by a member of one of the area churches. You may need to bring your own equipment for yard and construction work; this will be communicated to you once you are assigned to a site. Please note that ministry areas may change and/or more may be added. More communication will be provided before the event weekend.

Families with children in 5th grade or younger should participate in the Kid's Carnival where available (one parent must accompany the children). Youth in 6th grade or older are welcome to work in all ministry areas with a parent. Children should be supervised at all times.

Youth groups should plan for the entire group (youth and adults) to work together at the same site. Further arrangements might be able to be made by contacting CBFNC closer to the event date.

FAQs

~ Will there by insurance coverage?
Yes, CBFNC will be covering the day of mission work only. Your group needs to decide if you need travel insurance to and from the areas of work. However, for the day of missions work, insurance will be covered by CBFNC.

~ Where does the $25 go?
The majority of costs for the $25 is to cover the meals. We are providing breakfast (coffee, donuts, juice, etc), lunch and dinner on Saturday. A portion of the $25 will cover supplies needed to do the mission work. CBFNC is subsidizing the rest of the supplies needed. Remember, this is an area of poverty and any money we can pour into this community through missions work and materials is desperately needed.

~ What if I am leaving early on Saturday or not staying through Sunday morning, can I get a discount?
Unfortunately, no. We cannot price this event "per meal" or "per length of stay." It would help us out if you indicated on your registration form if you will be leaving early so we do not overbook our meals needs. The remainder of your money could then, instead, go towards the supplies needed for the mission work, for this day of work and in the future.

~ What is the youngest age of children that can participate?
In certain counties, we will be hosting the Children's Carnival. This site will be updated as soon as we know which counties will host the Children's Carnvial. We do not know how to gauge the community response to the Kid's Carnival. This means that the youngest age at the Carnival will depend on the youngest community child showing up. However, as a parent, make your best judgement on what your child is capable of doing. One parent will need to be at the Carnival with their children. The only child friendly activities are at the Children's Carnival. But please remember, we need the adults to be able to help and focus on their missions work; if your child is going to be a distraction because of their age, it might be best to get help in watching them. Each county varies per opportunities for Children's Carnivals. More information will be available at a later date.

~ Can my children in 5th grade or younger work at the other sites instead of the Carnival sites?
Unfortunately, no. We are not holding a Kid's Carnival at every site. Therefore, there would be no "child-friendly" activities everywhere. We need adult workers to be able to concentrate on their mission work without the distraction of young children, especially in order to keep these sites safe. If your children are in 5th grade or younger, they need to be at the Kid's Carnival with one parent. We thank you for your understanding in this matter of safety.

~ Can my youth (6th grade or older) participate?
Yes, we welcome youth and youth groups. Youth in 6th grade or older are welcome to work in all ministry areas with an adult sponsor. Youth groups should plan for the entire group (youth and adults) to work together at the same site. Further arrangements might be able to be made by contacting CBFNC closer to the event date.

~ Will I be contacted regarding my place of missions work before the event and regarding what tools to bring?
Yes, our site coordinators will make every effort to contact everyone (or group leader) regarding where they have been placed and if there are any tools/equipment to bring ahead of time.

~ Why do I need to list a preference for site work?
Due to the large response we have had previous years (over 600 persons), we are limiting the number of workers at each site. We will make every effort to match you to your desired site; however, once an area has reached capacity, we will need to move workers to other areas. Please be prepared to list your first AND second site choices.

~ Will my group be able to work together?
We will make every effort to keep groups together, who have the same interests in mission work. If groups are large, however, they may be split into several groups.

~ What if I cannot register by the deadline or get my money to CBFNC by the deadline?
Please call our office at 888-822-1944 to check availability.

~ Will there be a rain date?
Yes, rain dates will be available for some sites.

If we have not addressed your question, please give us a call at the CBFNC office at 888-822-1944.
